The Best Things to Do in the Plano-Dallas Area This Spring

Spring is fast approaching to Texas, and that just means that a lot of fun and exciting activities will also come along for everyone in the Plano-Dallas area to enjoy. But even if the days are already getting longer, there are precious little daylight hours to see and do everything there is and make the best of your free time, right?

Instead of leaving it up to chance to look for free things to do around Plano Texas and have only okay time, read up on our guide and learn what the best bets are for a fun time during the spring around the area. With plenty of events happening all at once and an expansive art district, you’re sure to find something great. All of these are family friendly options, of course!

Ride out the Trinity River one way or the other

The Trinity River Audubon Center offers a very dynamic way to see the wildlife and beauty of its namesake river with their two-hour kayak trips, which are available on Saturdays throughout spring. You’ll be navigating with the help and guidance of a tour guide, of course, so don’t worry too much if you’ve never rowed before.

On the other hand, if being so close to the water is not your idea of a good time, then perhaps you’ll enjoy a tour of the river while horseback riding, thanks to the Texas Horse Park. You’ll be able to enjoy the same scenery but from higher up, is all!

Escape the room!

In case there are some stray grey clouds looming about the skyline and threatening to ruin your trip outdoors, then you’ll find all the fun you need at The Escape Game, located in the Grapevine Mills Mall. You’ll be “locked” inside a room (although you can absolutely leave at any time you choose) and have to solve a mystery in one hour while a story unfolds around you in order to escape.

Completing your mission requires you to follow clues, solve puzzles, complete the story and, most important of all, work as a team with the other people in the room to be the heroes and opening the final door. Keep in mind, however, that you’ll have to make a reservation in advance to play.

Visit the Dallas Zoo

A staple destination since 1888, the Dallas Zoo is not only the oldest of all the zoos in Texas but also the largest, covering 106 acres and housing 2,000 different species of animals, out of which the “Giants of the Savanna” is the most famous. There is also a varied, interactive children’s area.

This is a great option for families since there are so many family-oriented activities and so much to see that you can make repeated visits throughout the spring, and if you know how traveling with children is, then you’re already loving it. Without a doubt, this is one of the best things you can do in Dallas during spring.

Skate your worries away

Maybe you’re the type of person that will actually miss the cold season after spring arrives, and Plano has the activity for you! The Dr. Pepper Starcenter offers you a lot of chilly indoors fun with their ice skating rink, so if the warmer temperatures got you down, put your blades on and slide away!

Public skate times are 5:25-7pm, Thu 10:30am-12:45pm and 3:15-5:15 pm, Fri 3:15-5pm and 7-10pm.

Zero Gravity Amusement Park

If you and your family are unrepentant thrill-seekers, then this park will be the highlight of your spring break. The Park features five intense attractions that are sure to give you all an adrenaline rush; you’ll spend the day bungee-jumping off a 7-stories tall structure, gliding over 100 feet in the air, blastoff at 70 mph into the air and much more.

While not for the faint of heart, this is an experience that you’re sure to remember for years to come, and remember that screaming gives you the courage to take the fall!
Trying to plan even a family weekend can be challenging for any parent, especially when it comes to finding age-appropriate entertainment for the youngest in the house. With this guide you’ll no doubt have all your bases covered since all of them offer fun for the whole family, and if you think you don’t have time for fun during the weekend, why not leaving those chores to the pros?
